    Declawing cats – some alternatives Humane February 28th, 2010

    In many countries declawing cats is illegal and is seen as inhumane. I will spare you the details on what it can do for our friends cats. This is not an article of shock and upset, but was designed for knowledge and some alternatives to offer. If you want to know all the details, there are many other articles out there on the Internet.

    One thing that is important to note, however, is that declawing is not a manicure. This is amputation of the last joint of your"cat's toes." When we think in this way, I think it will be clear why this is not a human thing considered in many countries.

    As humans we tend to be proud of our homes and furniture. The way our city looks is often a way to express themselves, as well as comfort. Obviously not many of us continue our furry friends, with our chairs, as we scratch tends places so much fun fun climbing.

    So what?

    I'm happy. I live in a small village surroundedof hills, and my cat can safely come and go as they wish. This means of course that I have the occasional "gift" of what thoughtfully decided to sleep in my house yet, but it also means that they tend to go up on their system and scratches and treat my furniture in much the same way, L ' I did – to sit and sleep.

    For many dog and cat owners, this is not an option. In the big city, or when the life in a different environment, with busy streets andincreased risk of disease, cats tend to live in the house. A good alternative for indoor cats is to teach them to use scratching posts. It comes in various shapes and sizes and tend to be very effective. A welcome mat or less structured in front of the doors can do wonders too.
